Zoom Committee Update

Dear all,

With regard to my e-mail of December 5th, Friday 11th January was the day identified for Individuals to be nominated for the vacant roles of Chairman and Secretary. In the intervening weeks over the Christmas and New Year period numerous discussions have taken place to establish the best way forward for the stewardship of the club.

In order to ease the administrative burden and widen the input of ideas into the club a proposal has developed to establish 4 further committee role as well as those already established.(Currently those are Chairman -vacant, Secretary-vacant, Treasurer-Julie Pike, Welfare Officer-Janine Jones, Webmaster-Mike McCarthy, Running Events Coordinator-Andy Downton, Running Coach – Tim Fairbrother)

The proposed new roles are:

Membership officer, responsible, for the development of the membership base and managing the welcome of new members to the club.

Communications Officer responsible, Communications to the membership, press relations, members email list control and to work with the webmaster on information flow through the club,

Brand Officer responsible, for sponsorship generation, Club kit, Club merchandise, the general brand image of the club.

Head Coach responsible for coordinating and developing the coaching and training sessions for the club. The development of coaching and coaches within the club.

Elsewhere on the blog will find job descriptions for the role of Head Coach and rewritten ones for the Chairman and Secretary positions, new job descriptions will be available for the other roles over the next couple of days and I will distribute them when they are available. If you are interested in undertaking any of these roles, please let me know by e-mail with a proposer and seconder by Sunday 27th January 2008.

On Tuesday 29th January we will be holding an Extraordinary General Meeting (at the Queens Park Golf Club at 8pm).The introduction of the new roles to the committee requires a change to the club constitution and therefore as the outgoing Chairman, I will ask the membership to take a  vote on the introduction of the new roles to the committee. After which and subject to the acceptance of the new roles by the membership, we then have the task of voting to agree who will undertake these new roles. Please note to be eligible for nomination or to vote on nomination you must be a current member of the club.

I am confident that this new proposed committee structure will enable the club to take the next step forward in its development and I hope that you will support its introduction. Zoom has made great strides over the past 2 years and I am sure we all want to see that continue.

I look forward to receiving your nominations and seeing you at the EGM on Tuesday 29th.

Kindest regards

Rob

Zoom Committee

With apologies to Dave Crichton, who distributed this info by e-mail, but was unable to add to the blog, there is a meeting tonight to discuss potential changes and extensions to the Zoom committee following the resignations of Rob and Dave.    Even if you can't make the meeting tonight, please look out for feedback from the session and feel free to respond and get involved.

Thanks,

Graham

Despite extensive offers of bribes and attempts at blackmail, no amount of persuasion could get Rob Griffiths or Dave Doust to change their mind (see e mail below) and so we are left with the matter of how to fill their very substantial shoes as Secretary and Chairman of our club

In order to continue with the great progress that Zoom tri club has made in he past 2 years, more volunteers are needed, who are willing and available to help make this happen.

So far a number of people have come forward to be involved in potential roles including Paulo, Kathy, Graham and Jean, Ash and doc Dave.

Since Rob’s work has been so extensive, it has been proposed that a number of new roles are developed to take on various aspects of the work he has been doing including

·         Membership officer (responsible, for example, for generating and handling new members)

·         Communications Officer (responsible, for example, for press relations, members email list control, member communications, etc)

·         ‘Brand’ officer (responsible, for example, for sponsorship, logo, kit ‘look’, merchandise, etc.)

·         Head Coach – hopefully Rob will continue with this??

The discussions so far have been informal and it is hoped that as many as want to be involved will offer up themselves as  volunteers, or make their suggestions prior to the proposed meeting mentioned in Robs e mail below; ie before 11th January.

We are hoping to have a preliminary meeting of those prepared to stand for any volunteer role at Littledown café on Thursday 10th January about 8pm (after the 6.30pm Littledown run)

Please give this some serious thought. The club belongs to all of us and we all have a responsibility to ensure it’s ongoing success,

If you have even an inkling of interest in being a volunteer, or be volunteered for any of this type of stuff or want to include your views in the discussions, please reply to this e mail or come along on Thursday evening, so that you can be involved in the meeting to consider a way forward for the new vacancies.

If you know of anyone who maybe interested and may not see this e mail, I hope you will try and let them know

Happy New Year

Doc  Dave (on behalf of several other Zoomers)
