Zoom Feed Station support team at the Forestman

As a thank you to Richard and Jo from Race New Forest for helping us out with the Mad March 20 race we promised to help them at their big Forestman event. We are going to man a feed station for them to support all the athletes on this very tough IM ddistance race. Please can we have volunteers from all those who are able to come out and help. Salisbury and Farnham Tri clubs are also manning aid stations.

It's a great event and we have a Zoomer who will be out there racing Ivan Whitehead, so to support him and the rest of the athletes, lets make sure we put on a good show. I will bring my Van out and would like to run some music from it Does anyone have a gazebo we can set up? How about having a theme for the event? A few years ago we had a Tim Don evening in celebration of him winning the world champs and that he grew a huge mexican style tashefor the event, we still have the photos of that one! How about a Carribbean or Samba theme, has anyone got any steel drums, we could make a really fun day and support the athletess as they come through. Most are going to need to see some happy faces cheersing them on. Obviously after the Mad March where all our support crew got rave reviews about the level of support they provided we are now on a mission! I will sort out times and our positioning, anyone who needs lifts etc please contact me and I will co-ordinate. Please let me know ASAP if you can help and I will create a list of supporters.

Anyone got a training bike they can loan for a month?

An athlete that has been serving out in the Falklands Islands is heading back home in a couple of weeks time. He is going to join the club on his return as he is based in Blandford. He will be without his bike for a month whilst its shipped back to the UK. Does anyone have a spare training Bike they could loan for a few weeks whilst his bike is mid-atlantic? He rides a 54cm frame, any help would be much appreciated. If you let me know any details and I can pass them on. Thanks for you help

Adventure fun in Wales - October 2009

For sometime there has been some chat about putting together and adventure style weekend for club members to have some fun at. I have been looking at this and have come up with a few thoughts. A friend and colleague of mine Andy Cummings is a moutaineering and Kayak instructor in Wales, I asked him to put forward some suggestions.

So we could travel to Wales on a Friday evening or first thing on Saturday morning, likely to somewhere in the Brecon Beacons, he has suggested a lovely venue called the Held bunk house  www.heldbunkhouse.co.uk  that would be our accommodation. We meet the instructors, the morning is spent practicing a few of the more technical skills we will need for the Sunday (I'llcome back to that!) In the afternoon we head out for a mountain Bike session and a bit of goofing around :-) A hearty dinner on the saturday evening and some home made merry making, Tim F  has a beautiful singing voice and will want to put any local Tom Jones impersonators to shame, he does a great 'green green grass'

The following day we all take part in  a handipcapped team adventure race using the skills we learned on the previous day. We would draw the teams out of a hat and Andy and his colleagues would come up with a handicapping system to make it fair and fun. It would be a mixture or Mountain biking, running, gorge scrambling,  abseiling, kayaking etc. We have yet to work out the numbers but its likely the more that come the lower the price. The date we were looking at was October 16/17/18. If you would like to express an interest in coming please ping me a mail or speak to me at one of our training sessions and I will let you know the firm details as we shape up the weekend.

Regards

Make mine a double! - Pat regains GUC Race in fine style

Pat Robbins made a brilliant return to retain his title at the 148 mile Grand Union Canal race this morning. After starting at 6am on Saturday morning he made steady progress throughout the day. BY 9.30 last night Pat had carved out second place around 25 minutes behind the leader.

Pat's Dad, sister and girlfriend Sam did a brilliant job as his support crew, so vital on such and a tough and long event. Through the night Pat was joined by other Zoom tri team mates, Stuart Glenister, Steve Holloway and Tim Fairbrother. Stuart and Steve ran with Pat for long periods during the night helping the miles tick by. This year the race was extended from its normal 145 mile length by 3 miles due to a few diversions along the route. Pat was on strong form and running well ahead of his original pacing schedule. Pat finished in a triumphant 26 hours 24 minutes. Beating last years record by 37 minutes whilst running a further 3 miles, amazing! Well done to Pat for an incredible feat of endurance and to his Support crew and team mates for seeing him home.
